Tarrant
County Gay Pride Week Association was founded in 1981, to
bring the gay community of Fort Worth & Tarrant County
together in celebrating its pride.
Our Foundation
A selfless man named Gary Taylor had an unmatched spirit of
community, family and pride. Gary’s other self, was an
extraordinarily entertaining “Drag Queen” named Raina Lea. In
the 70’s and early 80’s, Raina called gatherings of her Gay
Brothers & Sisters, her family.
The first gatherings were at Forest Park’s Shelter House, a
place to gather, out in the open, in public, where we could be
exactly who we were, without discrimination, without judgment
and without fear. Feeling that you belong, that you are
valuable and a member of something bigger than yourself, part
of this GREAT, BIG FAMILY, is what you got from these
gatherings.
These gatherings, our foundation, is what we now call the
Pride Picnic.
