Welcome Letter

Welcome to our first ever, “Weekend Pride Stay”.

Tarrant County Gay Pride Week Association set forth on a 2 year plan to get us to our historic 30th Anniversary Celebration. Realizing the undertaking this would be, we’ve motivated ourselves with the fact that we are establishing what is to be the future of PRIDE in Tarrant County. We are taking to the streets of Downtown Fort Worth to enable individuals to participate it their GLBT lives by breaking down the fear, putting a face to our community and to lift the social aspects that shadow our community to a positive plain.

The first step was figuring out where we wanted to be by October of 2011. Defining more clearly who we are, how we conduct business and who we serve determined the direction in which to go. Because of the way we were structured we never avidly marketed ourselves. To this day, there are many folks that have no idea that Fort Worth/Tarrant County has a PRIDE.

For many different reasons our dynamics have changed, developing if you will. These many changes have yielded a bigger, better, more positive and stronger program for all of our Tarrant County Community. The biggest change has been creating a Pride Weekend by combining our Parade and Picnic days consecutively.

Our Weekend Pride Celebration begins on Thursday, September 29th with registration, education sessions and the “Fort Worth Trading Post” Market at the Sheraton Hotel. Also, the day features events and attractions in beautiful downtown Fort Worth. A highlight is the VIP Reception & Outdoor Film Screening, at the Fort Worth Water Gardens, to kick off our celebration.

Friday sets the tone for “The City of Cowboys and Culture” as you venture off to the world famous Fort Worth Stockyards with it’s old west charm then onto the shopping and dining at the 7th St. Montgomery Plaza Walk. Capping off your day completes with a visit to the world renowned Cultural District via Molley the Trolley.

Another first, on Saturday we take to the streets of Downtown Fort Worth for the “Ride the Rainbow” Pride Parade. The Rainbow is a locomotive that will run us down Main St. Start time is 10:00 a.m. Following this historic trek we gather in General Worth Square for our, again, first ever Pride Street Festival. Mimicking the success of our first ever Block Party last year. We’ve added a few surprises.

Capping off our weekend with excitement, entertainment, food and fun on Sunday, October 2nd, is the “family friendly” Pride Picnic. This great family tradition and cornerstone of our pride program is set in the lush outdoors that is Trinity Park, overseeing the Trinity River bank.

Throughout the weekend are many additional side line events and activities, to our stay, such as the “Green with Envy” Party, comedian Suzanne Westenhoefer, Fall Fest and more. Our local GLBT Clubs have a lot of entertainment planned for you as well. We have also partnered with our sister GLBT Organizations to bring you an outstanding program. Take a gaze at our tourists’ dream schedule

We invite you to join us in all the festivities and wish a Happy Pride to all our Visitors, Fort Worth and Tarrant County!!
